Server Rollback & Summer

Well, after a bit more turbulence and an e-mail to 1&1 it seems as though the problems are now ironed out. It seems that I was not the only one having the problem either. There was about a two day rollback, but I think I have all the recent files re-uploaded so everything should be going good.

Aside from that, this school year is ALMOST over!!! What does that mean for Dujodu.com? It means I will hopefully find some more time to work on it so I can show everyone what I mean when I say "different styles" (think CSS Zen Garden, just not nearly as good). Also on the radar is a new merch section for the anticool site, so keep an eye out.

One downside of summer is that I think I need to get a job. This is unfortunate, but I don't really want to rely on the bus next semester for getting to and from school. Anyone have good summer job ideas? Well, I'm going to keep this one short because of the last gigantic post, but I hope everyone has a good start to their summers!

The Due Date

Well, I had a bit of a scare earlier today, I woke up and the site was down. Why? I have no clue, probably for the sole reason that it's due today and someone at 1and1 (my host) wanted to mess with me. That or just a horrible coincidence. Either way it's back up now and only a couple hours from midnight (the absolute due time). Since my last post I've added the about sections, and a lame "under construction" type page on the projects which hopefully won't be there for too long. Anyway, the site is pretty much exactly on target for where I wanted it to be by today.

I'll probably be adding some more media over the next week along with a new media section for director/lingo stuff which will start out with a nice little utilities cast I've been working on during my interface design class this semester. It's a set of 7 or 8 behaviors right now including basic QuickTime controls, sprite blend easing on rollover, some cool bouncing sprite rollovers, easeto rollovers, and others. Kind of hard to explain I suppose, but you'll see if you download em. I'm trying to decide if I should make the set one entry, or each behavior its own entry... any suggestions anyone?

If you haven't noticed yet, those validation links on the left seem to say this page isn't valid! oh no! Well the truth is, it's about as valid as it needs to be. The CSS error is complaining about the microsoft proprietary CSS opacity filter I used on the images in the recent media boxes to dull them a bit. This code only works in IE, but it doesn't break anything in any other browsers. For the XHTML one, it's looking at the ampersands (&) inside my links and counting them as invalid. This never used to happen but the w3c just updated their validators, again this won't effect anything since the &'s are just being used to pass variables with PHP and aren't actually being displayed anywhere on the page. It's a shame that I can't get the nice reassuring "This page is Valid!" in big bold letters anymore, but it still functions the same so oh well.

Lastly, I would like to ask if anyone finds the navigation (mainly on the left) to be annoying. I kind of like the fact that it contracts on every refresh, it keeps it nice and neat. Anyone strongly dislike this for some reason? Just leave a comment. Sorry for the looooong post.

News Comments.... awesome..

Well, I've got the news comments up and running, so feel free to add some comments (Just click the Add Comment or Comments(x) link in the lower right). As of now no login is necessary and an e-mail isn't even required, so you have no excuses not to post (you know, other than you probably have absolutely nothing to say to a news post about nothing). I made a generic "article" template today, so I'll probably start filling in those about pages pretty soon. The deadline is approaching so by this time next week the core features of the site will be up including everything on the left bar sans the projects since I currently have none. I'm also working on a forum template that may or may not be done by the end of the week, so that'll be fun to have so Erin and maybe Eric or Bowen can post something and I can reply. Still no media comments other than Erin & Justin, but that'll change when I unleash the URL at the Kirupa Forum. So in conclusion, comments are up and you should post and page should be more full by end of week. Goodbye for now.
